Ensuring Digital Accessibility

Proper use of agency tools is critical for collaboration across SCDE offices, meeting deadlines, and routing documents through the agency routing system for approval. Ensuring that the content we create with these tools is accessible is just as important. This comprehensive micro-credential stack addresses a wide range of Microsoft applications and how to use them to create accessible digital content.

Micro-credentials may be attempted at any time the learner feels competent in a skill OR the learner may work through the supporting screencasts and associated learning activities to learn or practice the skill. Just click on the PROOF OF LEARNING section in each micro-credential and complete the task(s) as described. Each micro-credential listed in the stack map below has a defined competency and a description of the proof of learning that will be accepted to document learner ability in that competency.  This stack has two micro-credentials and professional learning screencasts.

Digital Accessibility is critical to the daily function of the South Carolina Department Education (SCDE). It makes online content more manageable for everyone; helps us reach a wider audience; and it’s the right thing to do. SCDE staff must be aware of the legal considerations relative to online content and our agency goals of meeting the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 AA; that we have agency guidelines, policies, and procedures for creating online content; and the need to help educate our community on the topic.

The SCDE is committed to making its electronic and information technologies accessible to individuals with disabilities by meeting or exceeding the requirements of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act. This micro-credential describes the ten UNIVERSAL ACCESSIBILITY PRINCIPLES outlined to guide the development of agency content; identifies agency approved templates; and discusses the Microsoft accessibility checkers that are part of our Microsoft business tools.
